Executive and senior leaders all too commonly fall victim to “CEO disease” – being shielded from the information they need the most because no one wants to rock the boat. Critical business and personal performance feedback often falls into the shadows in favor of “good-citizenship,” keeping the peace, or staying off the chopping block, leaving executive leaders with little in the way of objective input. No one wants to tell the CEO when there’s a problem brewing in the organization, and they definitely aren’t going to be in a hurry to deliver the message when the executive’s own leadership skills are the thing that’s coming up short.

It’s easy as a leader to become almost strictly inwardly focused, especially when you have been very successful. But blind spots can become devastating when performance issues take a toll on effective leadership. Working with an executive coach to gain an outside perspective can make the difference between business as usual and a truly outstanding leadership performance.

All executive coaching sessions are strictly confidential and the coachee supplies the “agenda” for each session. The coach functions as an objective listener, insightful observer and challenging thought-partner in a way that helps the client maintain ownership of but process but benefit from deeper insight, clarity, and courage. It’s not all about feeling warm and fuzzy and checking the “I got someone to sign off on the fact that I’m fine the way I am” box. It’s about creating an atmosphere of self-accountability that leads to real change.

The coaching process is customized according to the unique needs of each client, ranging from immediate situation management to regular weekly, bi-weekly or monthly sessions. Coaching is done face-to-face whenever possible, although telephone or video conference consultations are possible if scheduling and location are prohibitive. Coaching relationships typically begin with an exploratory telephone conversation, which itself is confidential and without obligation.
